On the occasion of the World Refugee Day, the Hungarian Sant'Egidio Community invites Christians to remember those fellow human beings who ’died on the journey of hope’, while fleeing from war, terrorism, oppression and misery, in pursuit of a new life in Europe but lost their lives on the journey. The Community also invited 'our refugee friends' to join in prayer and give testimony of their sufferings and their hope to start a new life in Hungary.
The Ecumenical Prayer will take place on 20th June, at 7PM, in the Kaníziusz Szent Péter-templom (Saint Peter Church) in Budapest. Sermon will be offered by Péter Gáncs, Lutheran Bishop emeritus will. Simultaneous translation into English will be provided!
Sant’Egidio is a Christian community born in 1968, right after the second Vatican Council. An initiative of Andrea Riccardi, it was born in a secondary school in the centre of Rome. With the years, it has become a network of communities in more than 70 countries of the world. The Community pays attention to the periphery and peripheral people, gathering men and women of all ages and conditions, united by a fraternal tie through the listening of the Gospel and the voluntary and free commitment for the poor and peace. Prayer, poor and peace are its fundamentals points of reference.
